Does Your Cigna Plan Work With Healthtopia?

If you have a Cigna PPO and need a primary care doctor that accepts Cigna, there’s a good chance Healthtopia is in your network. Our practice is in network with most PPO plans.

If your plan is an HMO, Open Access Plus, or another Cigna network, coverage depends on the plan. You can search Cigna’s directory by your exact plan, or call 760.230.1888 and our team will check it for you.

Visits with Healthtopia’s MDs, DOs, and nurse practitioners are billed to your insurance, while naturopathic visits are self-pay.

What Can a Healthtopia Primary Care Provider Help With?

Whether you’re due for a checkup or something just doesn’t feel right, these are the things your primary care provider can help with:

Annual Physicals and Preventive Care

A yearly visit to check in on your health, catch things early, and keep your screenings on track.

Often covered as preventive

Chronic Condition Management

Ongoing care for conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes, with regular check-ins on how you’re doing.

Your usual copay may apply

New Symptoms and Routine Concerns

Coughs, rashes, aches, and other problems that need a doctor but not the ER.

Your usual copay may apply

Health Screenings and Immunizations

The tests and vaccines recommended for your age and health history.

Often covered as preventive

Women’s and Adolescent Health

Routine care for women and teens, from wellness visits to the everyday questions that come up in between.

Depends on the visit

Select Lab Testing and EKG

Some lab work and EKGs can be done during your visit, which can save you a separate trip.

Your usual copay may apply

Most Cigna medical plans cover eligible annual preventive care at 100% with an in-network provider. Just keep in mind that bringing up a new symptom or a chronic condition during that appointment can turn part of it into a regular office visit, with its own copay or deductible. If you want the physical fully covered, book a separate visit for those concerns.

Who Could Be Your Primary Care Provider at Healthtopia?

Healthtopia’s primary care team includes physicians and nurse practitioners, each with a slightly different approach. If you’re choosing a Cigna primary care physician, you might want a doctor with an emergency medicine background who handles a wide range of concerns, or one trained in family and integrative medicine who looks at the bigger picture. We can help you find a provider who offers the right fit.

Why Do Patients Choose Healthtopia for Ongoing Care?

We offer both urgent care and primary care, so if you come in sick, your follow-up can happen with the same team, using the same chart. You don’t have to retell your history or chase down records from another office.

Some lab work and EKGs can also be done during your visit, so you can often skip a separate trip to a lab.

Testimonials

What a refreshing experience all around, compared to the typical big healthcare groups in San Diego. Everything was easier, Including setting up an appointment, providing new patient information, and quick follow ups from appointments with all the details. Did I mention that they can draw blood in the same office? I will not miss going to LabCorp and all of that hassle.

Dr. Hardison has been my primary care physician since 2023, and I truly can’t imagine navigating my health without her on my team. Her diagnostic skills far surpass those of the last five PCPs I’ve seen over the years.

Healthtopia is the cleanest & most calming doctor's office in San Diego. For years I've been seeing Julianna Gabbard NP who is the MOST thorough, kind, professional & knowledgeable practitioner I know.

FAQs About Cigna Primary Care in San Diego

No. You don’t need a referral to see a primary care doctor. If you’re on a Cigna HMO or Network plan, though, you may need to name your Healthtopia provider as your PCP with Cigna before your first visit. You can do that in the myCigna app or by calling the number on your card.

In most Cigna plans, a visit with an in-network nurse practitioner is billed as a regular office visit, usually with the same copay as a physician visit. Check your plan summary if you want to be certain.

Coverage depends on the test and where it’s processed. Cigna works with preferred national labs, so some bloodwork may be sent to one of them while other tests are run in the office. Our team can tell you which applies before your sample is drawn.

Not always. Many plans treat a form-specific sports or school physical differently from an annual preventive exam, so it may carry a copay or be self-pay even when your yearly physical is fully covered. We offer both, so you can ask about the cost when you book.

Many Cigna plans include virtual care through MDLive, which works well for minor issues after hours. Having an in-person primary care provider alongside it still helps, because that provider keeps your full history, orders preventive screenings, and manages ongoing conditions over time. Some follow-up visits at Healthtopia can also be done virtually, so you don’t always have to come in.

Cigna sold its Medicare business, and for 2026, those plans carry the HealthSpring name. If your documents still say Cigna Medicare, call Healthtopia with your current HealthSpring member information so the office can check whether your plan and preferred provider participate.
