Urgent Care in San Diego When You Need to Be Seen Today

Do you have an illness, injury, or new symptom that needs attention sooner than your regular checkup? Healthtopia offers urgent care in San Diego at four clinics across the county.

We treat adults and children with non-life-threatening concerns, and because primary care runs through the same practice, follow-up doesn’t have to start somewhere new.

Every clinic offers EKG testing and select lab work on site, so providers can complete most testing during your visit rather than sending you elsewhere. The Encinitas clinic also offers on-site X-rays, along with fracture reduction, splinting, and casting.

Need to be seen today? Call 760.230.1888.

What Can Urgent Care in San Diego Treat?

Urgent care is designed for health concerns that need timely evaluation but aren’t life-threatening. At Healthtopia, that includes many illnesses and minor injuries that need prompt attention but don’t require emergency care.

Urgent care services include:

  • Minor injury and illness treatment
  • Cold, flu, and infection care
  • Adult and pediatric urgent care
  • Rapid COVID-19 testing
  • Cuts and wounds that may need laceration repair
  • Abscess drainage
  • Select on-site lab testing and EKG services
  • Evaluation and treatment of fractures, with X-ray, splinting, and casting available at Encinitas
  • Back pain relief

Should You Come Here or Go to the ER?

Urgent care can treat many problems that need prompt attention but aren’t life-threatening, including a bad flu, a cut that needs stitches, a sprain, an infection that isn’t improving, and chest tightness that warrants an EKG.

We have EKG and lab work in the building, and if what you have belongs in a hospital, we’ll tell you so directly rather than having you wait through an urgent care visit first.

For symptoms that may be life-threatening, such as severe difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, major trauma, or loss of consciousness, seek emergency care rather than waiting for an urgent care appointment.

Why Does Emergency Medicine Experience Matter in Urgent Care?

Healthtopia was founded in 2018 by two board-certified emergency physicians, Dr. Joy Hardison and Dr. James Howard. Their emergency-medicine experience shapes how the practice approaches urgent care: evaluate symptoms carefully, identify potential emergencies, and determine when a patient needs a higher level of care.

Dr. Hardison completed her emergency medicine residency at the University of Arizona after earning her MD and MPH from Mayo Medical School, and teaches as an adjunct professor at Bastyr University California. Dr. Howard has more than 10 years of experience across emergency medicine, general practice, and emergency medical services.

Healthtopia’s broader team includes 13 providers, including family nurse practitioners with experience in primary and urgent care.

Testimonials

What a refreshing experience all around, compared to the typical big healthcare groups in San Diego. Everything was easier, Including setting up an appointment, providing new patient information, and quick follow ups from appointments with all the details. Did I mention that they can draw blood in the same office? I will not miss going to LabCorp and all of that hassle.

Dr. Hardison has been my primary care physician since 2023, and I truly can’t imagine navigating my health without her on my team. Her diagnostic skills far surpass those of the last five PCPs I’ve seen over the years.
Chris
What a refreshing experience all around, I had the best experience at Healthtopia establishing primary care I was in and out in less than an hour!

Healthtopia is the cleanest & most calming doctor's office in San Diego. For years I've been seeing Julianna Gabbard NP who is the MOST thorough, kind, professional & knowledgeable practitioner I know.

Where Can I Find Healthtopia Urgent Care in San Diego?

We have four clinics across San Diego County, in Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Hillcrest, and Sorrento Valley

All four locations offer primary and urgent care, integrative and naturopathic medicine, EKG testing, and select lab services.

Some services vary by location. Encinitas is the only clinic with on-site X-ray, splinting, and casting, while PCR testing is available at Encinitas and Rancho Santa Fe.

Virtual Programs

Telehealth and Mobile Visits

Not every concern requires an in-person visit. For some conditions, a virtual appointment may be enough to determine what to do next.

We also provide mobile primary and urgent care throughout North County San Diego, with visits at home, at work, or in skilled nursing, senior living, and assisted living settings.

Call 760.230.1888 to arrange a visit.

What Happens If You Need Follow-Up After Urgent Care?

An urgent care visit may solve the immediate problem, but some conditions need another check, ongoing monitoring, or a longer-term plan. Because Healthtopia provides primary care at all four locations, you can stay within the broader practice if your provider recommends follow-up.

That continuity is especially useful when an urgent visit uncovers something that needs more attention—a high blood pressure reading, an abnormal lab result, or a symptom that doesn’t resolve. Your next appointment can focus on what changed and what to do next.

For patients interested in an integrative approach, follow-up can also include integrative medicine and naturopathic care. Naturopathic visits are self-pay.

Follow-Up After Urgent Care

Need Care Today?

If you have an illness, injury, or new symptom that needs prompt attention, Healthtopia offers urgent care at four San Diego clinics. Choose the location that’s most convenient and book online, or call 760.230.1888 if you need to be seen today or don’t see an appointment time that works.

If your concern needs emergency care instead, we’ll tell you directly. And if you need follow-up after your urgent visit, you can continue care with the same Healthtopia practice through primary, integrative, or naturopathic services.

FAQs About Urgent Care Near Me in San Diego

Booking online or calling ahead is the fastest route. Wait times depend on the clinic and the time of day, so calling before you drive over is the best way to find out what the wait looks like.

We have self-pay rates for every service, and the front desk will quote your specific visit before you come in. Testing such as an EKG, lab work, or an X-ray is priced separately, so ask about those too if you think you’ll need them.

Yes, we see both adults and children for urgent care. If you are booking for a child, mention their age when you call and tell the front desk what’s going on, in case the concern is better handled by a pediatric emergency department.

Yes, you don’t need to be an existing patient, and there is no referral required. If the visit turns up something that needs ongoing attention, you can ask about establishing primary care at the same clinic or request that your records be sent to your regular doctor.

Bring a photo ID, your current insurance card, and a list of medications you take, along with any relevant medical information you have available. Having those details ready can make check-in and the clinical evaluation easier.
