Is Healthtopia In Network With TRICARE?
Healthtopia may be an option for patients with TRICARE, but your coverage and referral requirements depend on which plan you have.
TRICARE Select: You can generally see TRICARE-authorized civilian providers without a referral. Using a network provider typically helps keep out-of-pocket costs lower. If you’re comparing TRICARE Select doctors, Healthtopia is a good place to start.
TRICARE Reserve Select: This plan generally follows the same referral rules as TRICARE Select, allowing you to see TRICARE-authorized providers without a referral.
TRICARE Prime: Your primary care manager (PCM) coordinates your care, and referrals are generally required for civilian specialty care. Rules for other civilian providers depend on your situation and authorization requirements.
Billing: Visits with Healthtopia’s MDs, DOs, and nurse practitioners are billed to TRICARE. The one exception is naturopathic care, which is self-pay.

FAQs About TRICARE Primary Care Doctor in San Diego
What happens to my primary care after a PCS to San Diego?
A PCS can change your region, your plan options, or your PCM. If you’re arriving from another region, update your TRICARE enrollment with TriWest soon after the move so you aren’t left without an assigned PCM while you settle in.
Will I pay a copay for a primary care visit with TRICARE?
Copays depend on your plan and status. Active duty service members pay nothing for covered care, and active duty family members on Prime usually have no copay for network visits. Select members generally pay a copay that varies by enrollment group, and non-network visits cost more.
Can a non-network provider charge me more than TRICARE pays?
They can, within limits. A TRICARE-authorized provider outside the network may charge up to 15% above the TRICARE-allowed amount, and you would pay that difference on top of your normal cost share. Network providers can’t bill you for that extra amount.
My PCM is at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Can I still see a Healthtopia provider?
On Prime, you would usually need a referral from your military PCM before seeing a civilian provider for care they can provide themselves. Select members don’t need that referral, which is one reason families sometimes move their primary care to a civilian practice.
Do I need a referral for urgent care at Healthtopia?
Prime family members generally don’t need a referral for network urgent care. Active duty service members usually do, unless their PCM has already arranged it. Select members can use urgent care at any authorized provider, though network clinics keep costs lower.
